The campaign’s over. Now what?

Gregory Crosby & Geoff Carter

Two weeks ago, more than 150 backers helped us raise over $13,000 toward the completion of Parkway of Broken Dreams.

That weekend, we embarked on a whirlwind trip to Las Vegas to capitalize on several movers, shakers and culture-makers from the Maryland Parkway scene all being in town at one time. We partially have the Las Vegas Book Festival to thank, which brought in Gregory Crosby, a.k.a. The Professor, to chat with Las Vegas Weekly senior editor Geoff Carter and read from his new poetry collection, Walking Away From Explosions in Slow Motion.

We’ll let the name cards do the talking.

At the same time, nomadic musician-animator-raconteur Ronn Benway (of Benway Bop!/Benway Records) also happened to be in Las Vegas, so not only were we able to get interviews with him and Crosby filmed, but also Dayvid Figler and Sean C. Jones (both of Tippy Elvis) while we were on a roll.

Ronn Benway and Sean Jones have been friends since before they could grow such interesting facial hair.

Last week, your humble director chatted with Melinda Sheckells and Mark Gray of KXNT News/Talk Radio’s “Flip the Strip” show to talk about (what else) Parkway of Broken Dreams. That segment should be available soon on KXNT’s website.

What’s next? This weekend, I’ll be taking a short break from the film to appear at the 11th annual Vegas Valley Comic Book Festival, which happens at the Clark County Library (just off Maryland Parkway, naturally) on Nov. 3 from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

After that, it’s on to scheduling more interviews and assembling more footage, as well as boring stuff like appointments with lawyers, bankers and insurance agents–all of which make doing the fun stuff possible. Stay tuned for more on that (the fun stuff, not the boring stuff).
