Snow days and rainy nights

Portland in winter

We’ve been back about a week now from a whirlwind two-and-a-half-day excursion to the Pacific Northwest, from which we brought back a lot of interview footage and a seasonal cold, hence why it’s taken us more than a week to post an update.

In case you didn’t know, there’s quite a large contingent of musicians, poets, writers and artists who relocated to Seattle, Portland and nearby cities over the last few decades, particularly starting in the late 1990s–perhaps not coincidentally, at about the same time the scene on Maryland Parkway was winding down. In fact, we knocked out three interviews in one apartment merely because of the close proximity of Vegas expats in the Emerald City. Here’s just a glimpse at the insights gathered there, a short clip featuring Meagan Angus, who lent the aforementioned apartment for many, many hours:

This was the last major filming trip we’ll be making (with a possible stop in Vegas in April) as we dig into heavy assembly/editing on this documentary. We’ve now completed 23 interviews totaling just about as many hours of new footage, with folks representing a wide cross-section of participants in the 1990s cultural explosion on the Parkway. Publishers. Business owners. DJs. Poets. Journalists. Visual artists. Musicians. Movers, shakers and makers. Now it’s time to edit those voices together, married to archival video and photos, to tell the story of that scene.

All of this wouldn’t have been possible without the support of so many people (possibly including YOU), and we hope you’ll continue to stay engaged as we work on bringing this film to completion and then to the attention of the wider world. Please make sure to follow us on Facebook or Instagram for more behind-the-scenes glimpses and news updates (like this nice little mention in the NEW YORK FRIGGIN’ TIMES), and invite your friends to do so as well. Let’s share this story.
